Bingorms Rock Climbers Guide

The near roadside mountain crags centered around Lough Barra provide all the ingredients for remote mountain crag climbing all within a twenty minute walk from the car, this area is also an excellent base for the areas of Glenveagh and the mighty Poisoned Glen crags.
The Bingorms area is generally refered to as Lough Barra, due to it's close proximity and excellent rosadside parking at this huge loch. The crags are split into five main areas on the south face of Slieve Snaght in the Derryveagh Mountains. The largest and most mountainous crag in this area is Bingorm West, with its huge sweeps of granite and easy access. Routes on this crags have seen regular ascents since the first ascents in the fifties.
The more recent addition to this area is Sirloin Slab which was cleaned and developed in by Alan Tees in 2003 and provides the area's best single pitch climbing
with the 43 meter long 3 star Sergeant Pluck being the best route to date.
