Cnoc an Aifrinn

Cnoc na Aifrinn Guidebook

Cnoc na Aifrinn lives in a very scenic location above and overlooking Mulroy Bay with outstanding views towards Horn Head and the Derryveagh Mountains. This mountain top crag is now, thanks to a new wind farm access road, a roadside mountain crag. Access to the crag is by the untarred windfarm access road which takes you easily to within a couple of hundred meters of the crag. The crag itself is very exposed to south-west wind and weather with the rock being very quick drying in its high and draughty location.
The rock on all the faces is excellent clean with good mostly well-protected climbing. Running along the top of the crag is a wide grassy gearless area with occasional stakes in place. It is always a good idea to bring a couple of stakes with you when you visit. Without stakes at the top of the crag, it is near impossible to protect most of the routes here naturally.
The nearest alternative climbing locations being DowningsMuckish Mountain and the Inishowen Peninsula.
